    • Viruses cannot be killed by antibiotics
  • Measles - a highly infectious disease
    • Symptoms: fever, red skin rash
    • Measles spread in droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, passed to different person when droplets are inhaled
    • Can cause damage to breathing system and brain, can be fatal
  • HIV (human immunodeficiency virus)
    • Symptoms: flu-like illness (virus is attacking cells of patients immune system)
    • Patients immune system can become so badly damaged that it cant fight other infections that others could easily deal with - patient can now easily contract other infections such as TB
    • Can be spread through sexual contact or exchange of body fluids which occurs when drug users share needles
  • TMV (tobacco mosaic virus)
    • Symptoms: mosaic pattern, dicolouration in leaves
    • Transmitted through contact between plants naturally or on hands of the farmer
    • Viruses attack by reproducing inside of the body cells
