  • EMPLOYMENT
    • TNCs can directly and indirectly employ people, especially if the country is dependent on TNCs for investment and employment
    • The impact is larger when the country is tightly connected to the TNCs, such that supporting industries are also affected by the presence of TNC in the country
    • Eg. Seagate’s operations in Singapore have led to the development of a robust supply chain ecosystem in the country. This has created jobs for material sourcing, logistics and equipment maintenance
  • EDUCATION
    • TNCs can create opportunities for skills development, depending on the scope of work performed in the country
    • However, low-end production in LDCs has limited room for the transfer of technology and skills compared to higher-end production
  • POOR WORKING CONDITIONS
    • TNCs may engage in exploitative practices, such as low-paying wages, enforcing long working hours, or neglecting workplace safety standards, particularly in regions with lax regulations
