Positive Feedback

• Process that increases any change detected by the stimulus, tends to be harmful and does not lead to homeostasis (destabilises body systems
• Beneficial positive feedback comes from oxytocin (hormone secreted from posterior pituitary gland); causes uterus contractions, starts labour; contractions stimulate release of more oxytocin, which causes more uterine contractions - also stimulates milk release from nipples in breast-feeding; the more the baby sucks, the more oxytocin is released and milk ejected
