organisation of nervous system

Cards (5)

  • central nervous system - consists of brain and spinal cord
  • peripheral nervous system (PNF) - consists of all neurones that connect the CNS to the rest of the body. These are the sensory neurones which carry nerve impulses from the receptors to the CNS, and the motor neurones which carry nerve impulses away from the CNS to the effectors
  • somatic nervous system - under conscious control
  • autonomic nervous system - works consciously under subconscious control and is used when the body does something automatically.
  • autonomic nervous system splits into two:
sympathetic nervous system - increases activity e.g heart rate increase
parasympathetic nervous system - decreases activity e.g heart rate decrease
