The Provisional Government

• Under Prince Lvov, its members represented a cross-section of the influential elites and comprised those who had formerly favoured constitutional monarchy - liberals, moderate socialists and Kadets. 
• It was the original intention that the Provisional Government would be temporary. Nevertheless, the Provisional Government was accepted as legitimate (thanks to Mikhail's blessing) by the old tsarist civil service, army officers and the police. It set itself up in the Duma chamber and so perpetuated its rule, although it never rejected the idea of elections at a later date.
