Chapter 8: Special Senses

• Sclera - "white of the eye"
• Cornea - the crystal clear central anterior portion of the fibrous layer, and is the "window" through which light enters the eye
• Choroid - a blood-rich nutritive tunic that contains a dark pigment, which prevents light from scattering inside the eye
• Iris - a colorful, rounded structure in the eye that controls the amount of light entering the eye
• Pupil - a rounded opening, where the light passes through
