• Charles wanted to impeach ‘6 factious spirits’ including John Pym
• He entered parliament with 500 soldiers which was an excessive show of force showing total disregard for parliamentary privilege and tradition
• Increased mistrust of Charles in Parliament and out ( London Mob)
• Increased credibility of Pym (Charles ignored Parliamentary privilege – absolutism?)
• Radicalised Parliament in order to protect their position (Exclusion Bill/ militia Ordinance)
• Resulted in Charles taking his family to Hampton Court ( He Lost control of London)
• Charles further alienated support by the attempt to take control of Hull
• Parliament's last ditch attempt to negotiate
• Conciliatory tone but radical and extreme terms. Charles would never agree to it.
