Preparations For War

• Both sides felt threatened by the other and so armed themselves for defence
• Charles issued the Commissions of Array- June 1642 establishing a royalist army.
• Parliament issued the Militia Ordinance (March 1642) . A committee of Safety and funding for a army (July 1642) under the Earl of Essex
• On 22nd August 1642 Charles raised his standard at Nottingham
• He summoning all loyal English men and women to his cause. It was a declaration of war on Parliament
