  • Diagram and explain the function of each component of a muscle fiber as discussed in lecture.
Motor units are a single somatic motor neuron which control skeletal muscle, and there are fine motor units which are smaller but weaker and have better control, as well as coarse motor units which are larger but stronger and have less control.
  • Diagram and explain the function of each component of a muscle fiber as discussed in lecture.
The sarcolemma is the muscle fiber’s plasma membrane, while the sarcoplasm is the cytoplasm within the muscle fiber, and the neuromuscular junctions are where somatic motor neurons communicate with muscle fibers.
  • Diagram and explain the function of each component of a muscle fiber as discussed in lecture.
Myofibrils are covered by the sarcoplasmic reticulum, while transverse tubules allow excitation to reach further, and the sarcoplasmic reticulum contains and controls the flow of calcium into the sarcomeres where thick and thin filaments slide against each other to create contractions.
