  • 80 lords declared for the King 30 for parliament
  • 175 MPs declared for King and 300 for Parliament.
  • Landowners, country gentry and Anglicans declared for King
  • This meant he had the support of the local leaders who were rich in land and influence but not disposable income
  • Many of these men had some military training
  • King largely had North and West of the country. This gave him access to resources of iron, cloth, leather needed to supply an army
  • The King lacked the resources to sustain a long war
