pressure

Cards (6)

  • what is atmospheric pressure?
atmospheric pressure decreases the higher you go above sea level, as there is less weight of the atmosphere acting upon you. compared to being closer to sea level, which increases the atmospheric pressure as there is a greater weight of the atmosphere acting upon you.
  • a fluid is either liquid or gas
  • as depth increases, the number of particles above that point increases, the weight of these particles adds to the pressure felt at the point so the pressure increases with depth.
  • the more dense a liquid, the more particles it has in a fixed volume so there are more particles to collide with, therefore the pressure is greater.
  • fluid contains particles with mass that as they move, they bump into objects, exerting a force at a right angle known as pressure.
  • pressure = froce/unit area
