Modelling

• You can model moving parts and take photographs to visualise your idea which you couldnt do with just drawings
• Modelling can be used in many stages of design:

  • generating and exploring ideas
  • refining
  • communicating
  • verifying design
• Models should show something that hasnt been displayed or discovered through sketches
• Models for the generating and exploring ideas stage should be able to be produced quickly and do not require a high level of detail
• Modelling is particularly useful when refining ideas as it's often used for testing ergonomics with users
• The different types of modelling include;

  • sketch models
  • block models
  • scale models
  • working models
  • 3D computer models
  • prototyping
  • rapid prototyping
