Parliament Alliances

• Parliament negotiated Solemn League and Covenant with Scots
• The Scots would fight with Parliament in return for the introduction of Presbyterian settlement in England at a later date
• This was potentially a very divisive agreement as many MP’s against it 
• It led to victory at Marston Moor which effectively destroyed royalist control in the North and bought geographical and military advantages
• Parliament’s alliance bought it practical advantages without splitting its fragile unity
