  • What are the types of storage media?

Paper, optical, magnetic and solid state storage.
  • Explain what is optical media?

A type of storage media that uses lasers to project beams of light into a spinning disc, allowing it to read data from a CD, DVD or Blu-ray.
  • What can optical media be used to do?

Store music and can be sent by post.
  • Give the benefits of optical media?

    Cheaper, portable
  • Give the disadvantages of optical media?

Has the lowest capacity storage, very fragile and can break or damaged easily. Slowest access speed
  • What is the storage for a DVD?

    4.7 GB
  • What is the storage for CD?

    700 MB
  • what is the storage for Blu-Ray?

    25 GB
  • Explain wha a magnetic media storage is?
It uses magnetism to record data on tapes or disks coated with magnetic material. Magnetic hard disk drive is the most common form of secondary storage with desktop computers for backups. Can be internal or external.
  • Give the benefits of magnetic media's?

Are cheaper than hard disk drives. larger storage capacity up to 10 TB are available.
  • Give the disadvantages of magnetic media's?

Not portable when they are powered on. Can get heated so it needs cooling. Not as fast as SSD as there are moving parts, which can be damaged easily.
  • What is solid state media storage?
Are no moving parts that stores data electronically rather than a magnetic disk. It uses laptops and other portable devices. examples are SSD cards, USB, memory cards and SD cards.
  • Give the benefits of storage media?
Fast replacing hard drives due to quick access speeds. Does not require air cooling unlike HDDs. It is more durable than HDDs.
  • Give the disadvantages of solid state media?
USBS and SD cards can snap easily. Very expensive and less storage capacity than hard disk drives.
