Chloroplasts

Cards (6)

  • The thylakoid is stacked into grana. This provides a large surface area for chlorophyll molecules to absorb light.
  • The stroma contains enzymes like rubisco (used in the Calvin cycle) which are used in carbon dioxide fixation.
  • The ribosomes and DNA in the stroma are used to synthesise proteins.
  • Where does the light dependent stage of photosynthesis take place?
    In the thylakoid.
  • Where does the light independent stage of photosynthesis take place?
    In the stroma.
  • Chloroplasts may contain a range of wavelengths which can absorb a range of wavelengths for maximum light absorption.
