Unit 3

Cards (7)

  • What are the forces of Nature?

    Enthalpy and Entropy
  • What is entropy?

Tendency towards maximum disorder (Chaos, unorganized)
  • What are the rules for determining entropy?

Solids are more ordered than liquids which are more ordered than gasses, A pure substance is more ordered than a mixture, less moles are more ordered than more moles.
  • How can equilibrium be altered?

Alter concentration of products, alter concentration of reactants, alter temperature, alter pressure of gaseous equilibrium.
  • What is Le Chatelier's principle?
If a change is imposed on an equilibrium, the system will partially shift as to compensate for the change.
  • What is enthalpy?

The energy a substance has, typically stored within its chemical bonds
  • What are the conditions of equalibrium?

Closed system, no observable change, opposite reactions, occurring at same time.
