  • Sculpture
    The Greeks and Romans are known for their human form statues. Commonly representing their gods and rulers, these sculptures are made in stone, bronze, and marble. There are varieties in their sizes, from statuettes to busts to life-size to larger-than-life artworks. Unfortunately, most of them deteriorated and destroyed over time.
  • Artemision Bronze
    • Found in 1928 at the coast of Cape Artemisium, the Artemision Bronze is a controversial work of art.
    • People still debate whether it is a representation of Zeus, the Greek god of heaven or Poseidon, the sea god.
    • The two-meter-tall sculpture is known for its detailed presentation of motion and anatomy, but in fact, it has longer limbs making it inexact in proportion.

    • Nike was a favorite subject of classical sculptures.
    • at Olympia has a wet look featuring the contours of the body of the goddess.
    • It looks like semi-suspended with only her toes landing on the base.
  • Winged Victory of Samothrace
    • is one of the greatest masterpieces of Hellenistic sculpture due to its visual effects.
    • Erected to honor the victory of Demetrius in a sea battle, it gives the illusion of flowing in the winding cloth presses the body of the deity.
