Monotropy

• Infants attach to one caregiver (special attachment)
• often the biological mother is the special attachment
• The attachment with the monoTropic figure leads into the continuity hypothesis which is the idea that later relationships will mirror the attachment pattern shown with the mother
• infants who have a secure relationship with a caregiver will grow up and be more emotionally and socially competent than infants with insecure attachments
