    • When: January 1919
    • Who: Spartacists were left-wing communists who wanted to copy what communists had achieved in Russia in 1917. They were led by Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht (both killed)
    • Why: They wanted control and were helped by some factory workers/ sailors

    • what: 1st attempt at a communist revolution (failed
    • Ebert-Groener Pact had passed its 1st test of loyalty
    • President Ebert called army + Freikorps to smash uprising
  • The Kapp Putch (right):when, who, where?

    • When: November 1923
    • Who: Wolfgang Kapp & 1200 Friekorps (another right-wing party)
    • Where: Marched in Berlin in the Kapp Putch where the pact failed: the army, willing to shoot communists and strikers refused to fire as they like Friekorps from the army
  • The Kapp Putch (right): why and what?

    • Why: Both parties wanted to make Germany powerful again with an old dictator style government after the treaty (and were angry about treaty)
    • What: An attempt to seize power, resulted in kapp being chancellor of militaristic government but wasnt popular and lasted 4 days.
