Levels of explanations within reductionism

Cards (4)

  • What does the reductionist approach in psychology suggest
It suggests that explanations begin at the highest level and progressively look at component elements
  • Higher level explanations
They are more holistic and broad explanations and take multiple factors into account (e.g. cultural, social, psychological) and how these interact and lead to behaviour
  • Mid level explanations
    They are broader psychological explanations
  • Lower level explanations
Most reductionist explanations are lower level as they break down behaviour into the smallest, underlying components to study them
