In 'ecology', it is important to know that all organisms have
relationships.
Therefore, if something changes, it can affect other parts of an
ecosystem.
Such as predators not having enough to eat because the
population
of mice has
declined.
A habitat is the place where an
organism
lives.
The 'population' is all of the
organisms
of a particular
species
that live in a
habitat.
The 'community' is all the
populations
of different
species
that live together in a
habitat.
Biotic factors are the
living
factors of an
environment.
For example, the number of
predators.
Abiotic factors are the
non-living
factors of an
environment.
For example,
temperature
and soil
pH.
An 'ecosystem' is the
interaction
of a
community
of living organisms with the
non-living
parts of their
environment.
Organisms have to
compete
with each other in order to get enough
resources
(such as
food
,
territory
and
mates
).
This
competition
may be with the
same
species or
different
species.
Interdependence is the idea that all
species
depend on other
species
in some way.
Plants compete for;
Water
Mineral
ions
Light
