Rocks

    Cards (5)

    • Minerals
A mineral is a natural substance with a crystal structure.
    • Igneous Rock
Form from the cooling and solidification of molten material, either magma (underground) or lava (above ground). E.g. Granite, basalt.
    • Types of Igneous Rocks
Intrusive Igneous Rock - Forms beneath the earths surface from magma cooling. Much larger crystals can form. Often course grained.
Extrusive Igneous Rock - Forms above the earths surface from lava cooling. Minimal crystal growth. Fine grained pr glassy.
    • Sedimentary Rocks
Formed from the accumulation and compression of sediments. E.g. Sandstone, Lime stone and Shale.
    • Metamorphic Rocks
Formed from pre-existing rocks that have undergone changes to heat and/or pressure. E.g.Marble, PhylliFormed from pre-existing rocks that have undergone changes to heat and/or pressure. E.g.Marble
