• WMA stands for Windows Media Audio and was developed by Microsoft. It is supported by most home entertainment but only few mobile devices. It needs an online converter to convert WMA files into other formats.
• FLAC stands for Free Lossless Audio Codec and was developed by the Xiph.Org Foundation. It has both small file sizes and great audio quality. It is also the preferred file type for creating archives.
• ALAC stands for Apple Lossless Audio Codec. It is Apple's version of the FLAC. It is most commonly used in Apple Products.
• WAV stands for Waveform Audio Format and was developed by Microsoft. It is compatible with Windows Computer Applications. Because it takes up space, it is a good audio editing file.
• AIFF stands for Audio Interchange File Format and was developed by Apple. It is used for storing audio in Apple Computers and is Apple's Version of the WAV file type.
• PCM stands for Pulse Code Manipulation and is used for CDs, Computers, and Applications.
