method 2 ( volume of hydrogen)

Cards (4)

  • measuring the volume of hydrogen produced in a reaction
  • magnesium + hydrochloric acid \rightarrow magnesium chloride + hydrogen
    1. using a measuring cylinder measure 50cm 3^3 of hydrochloric acid in a conical flask
    2. attach a bung and delivery tube
    3. place the delivery tube in a container filled with water
    4. place a measuring cylinder overturned with water on top of the delievery tube
    5. add 3cm strip of magnesium to the hydrochloric acid and start a stopwatch
    6. every 10 seconds , measure the volume of hydrogen until the reaction is finished
    7. repeat the experiment using different concentrations of hydrochloric acid
  • the two experiments show the experiment is reproducible and is proven by two different experiments
