Natural population growth
Urban areas have relatively young age profiles. Across the world, it has been traditionally young adults (15-40 years) migrating for higher paid jobs, better educational opportunities and greater social and cultural diversity.
These migrants are in their fertile years, and so the rates of natural increase are higher in cities than the surrounding rural area.
