• How are chemicals recycled?:

  • In microorganisms enzymes catalyse large molecules into small molecules using enzymes. Microorganisms respire producing carbon dioxide and release mineral ions
  • In plants carbon dioxide diffuses into leaves by diffusion via the stomata as carbon dioxide is used in photosynthesis to make glucose to turn into starch and cellulose for cell walls
  • Nitrate ions are taken up the roots via active transport as they are needed in making amino acids
