  • What does Marx say about stratification?
    It is determined by their relationship to the means of production. Bourgeoisie are the owners and the proletariat the workers, created the base (superstructure) of society
  • What is the superstructure?
    in capitalist society the ruling class promote its own ideologies and values as the norm for the entire society, these ideologies are accepted by the working class which maintains the base of society
  • What did Marx predict?
    the bourgeoisies control over the base and superstructure of society would lead to the gap between rich and poor widening over time. Eventually the workers would develop a true class conscious and work to seize means of production which would abolish social stratification
