Anti-conformity

Cards (5)

  • Anti-conformity is a deliberate refusal to comply with social norms as demonstrated by ideas, beliefs, or judgements that challenge these social norms.
  • Anti-conformity is not a genuine attempt to express one's ideas or perspectives. Instead, anti-conformity comes from a desire to be stubborn or rebellious.
  • Anti-conformity within a group setting occurs when a person who is trying to be swayed purposefully says or does the opposite of what the group suggests. As a result, the person ends up publicly disagreeing with the group, even if the individual agrees with the group's position privately.
    Rebelling against influence.
  • Quite often, behaviour considered anti-conformist to one group would be seen as conformist to another group.
  • While noticeably different, the decisions of conformists and anti-conformists are shaped heavily by the group.
