titration

Cards (4)

  • what is the aim of the titration practicle?

calculate an unknown concentration of an acid or alkali by carrying out a neutralisation reaction by titration
  • step 1:
measure out 50cm3 of the alkali using a glass pipette and put it in a conical flask add methyl orange indicator (turns red/pink in an acid) or alternativly add phenphthalein (colourless to pink)
  • step 2 :
fill biurette with an acid to 0cm3, for a rough titration open the tap to add the acid to the alkali, while swirling the flask. once it turns pink neutralisation has occured
  • step 3:
then carry out multiple accurate titrations- when nearing the volume from the rough titre, only add a drop of acid and swirl every time, if it stays pink neutralisation has occured
