temperature changes

Cards (8)

  • what is the aim of this practicle?
    use temperature change to determine olume needed to neutralise
  • step 1 :
    mesure out volumes of acid and alkali, put in a polystyrene cup with a lid and a thermometer (you can put the cup in a beaker for stability
    )
  • step 2:
    record maximum temperature reached, repeat this with increasing volumes of alkali
  • step 3:
    plot max temperature against volume of alkali- they will decrease once the alkali is in excess (same amount of energy distrivuted through a greater volume)
  • step 4 :
    where the 2 lines of best fit meet is the volume of alkali needed to neutralise the acid
  • independant variable:

    volume of alkali needed
  • dependant variable :

    maximum temperature needed
  • control variables:

    concentration of reactants, initial temp
