Anaerobic respiration

Cards (2)

  • In anaerobic respiration, the pruvate produced in glycosis is converted into ethanol (in plants and yeast) or lactate (in animal cells and some bacteria) using NADH.
  • The production of ethanol or lactate regenerates oxidised NAD, meaning that glycosis can continue even when there isn't much oxygen around. Due to this a small amount of ATP can be produced to keep some biological processes going.
