sampling

Cards (4)

  • What are the 5 types of sampling and explain

1.random sampling: equal chance of being selected
    2. systematic: selecting every nth person from a list
    3. stratified: sample reflects the proportion of people within different populations
    4. opportunity sampling: choosing whoever is available
    5. volunteer sampling: participants self select themselves.
  • the evaluations for sampling
random sampling: No researcher bias, time consuming and may end up with bias
systematic: no researcher bias, fairly representative, may be a biased sample
stratified: no researcher bias, representative, cant account for all sub groups
    opportunity: convenient, researcher bias, unrepresentative
volunteer: less time consuming, attracts a certain type of person.
  • Opportunity sampling: Quick and cheap but not representative so results aren't generalisable
  • Systematic sampling: Time consuming, no researcher bias but can be biased if there's an uneven distribution of characteristics
