Study Question Six

Cards (5)

  • Q6. What anatomical structures and concepts did doctors apply to create new generation prostheses?
  • Neurons are the primary structure applied, as they can be tapped into in order to interpret brain signals for control. In relation, the concept applied is nerve regeneration, enabling the prosthetic to receive signals from the nervous system. Proprioceptors provide feedback about body position and movement, enhancing the user's ability to control with precision. Neuroplasticity is the brain's ability to reorganize, helping to adapt to control prosthetics.

  • Action potentials are a propagated change in the membrane potential of excitable cells, initiated by a change in the membrane permeability to sodium ions
  • Wallerian degeneration is the disintegration of an axon and it's myelin sheath distal to an injury site
