Measures of central tendency

Cards (4)

  • Measures of central tendency is a term for any measure of the average value in a set of data
  • The mean is the average it's calculated by adding all the values in the data and dividing it by the total number of values using all the data in means it is more representative of the data as a whole
A weakness is that it can be easily distorted by extreme values that may not represent the data overall
  • Median is the middle value in a data set the values are arranged from lowest to highest
A strength of this is that it is not affected by extreme values
And it is fairly easy to calculate
A weakness is that it is less sensitive than the mean as the actual values of lower and higher numbers are ignored and extreme values maybe important
  • The mode is the most frequently occuring number in data set
