• It is always important to assess the risks when conducting a fieldwork investigation to ensure your safety. What would you do to minimise these risks
• Risk: drowning

  Minimising the risk: ·

  • Use a map so you know where areas of deep water exist.
  • Be sensible near water and avoid going near the edge.
  • Stay in groups so that if someone goes in there are others to help
  • Know where the lifebelts are located so you can be rescued quickly
  • Carry a throwline to rescue in the event of no lifebelt
• Risk: Traffic incident

  Minimising the risk:

  • exit the coach on the pavement
  • watch for traffic before crossing
