There are some types of reactions, for example, thermal decomposition, oxidation, combustion and displacement reactions.
Thermal Decomposition is when a reactant breaks down into a few different products due to heat.
Oxidation is the reaction between an element/compound with oxygen to form another compound
Metals can be oxidised.
Displacement Reactions occur when the different parts of compounds swap due to changes in reactivity
Combustion is the scientific word for "burning". It occurs when burning of something (usually fuels) that releases energy as light and heat.
Complete Combustion occurs when there is enough oxygen available so all carbon burns completely - this produces Carbon Dioxide which is harmless.
Incomplete Combustion occurs when there isn't enough oxygen present so not all carbon burns completely - this produces Carbon Monoxide which is poisonous.
