GPE & KE

Cards (5)

  • GPE stands for…. Gravitational Potential Energy
    • When an object changes height it gains or loses gravitational potential gravity energy. the higher an object is the more gravitational potential energy it has.
  • The formula for GPE :
    GPE = mass * gravitational field strength * height
    • GPE is measured in Joules(J)
    • Mass is measured in Kilograms (kg)
    • Gravitational field strength is measured in ( N/kg), newtons per kilogram
    • Height is measured in metres (m)
  • When calculating GPE something to remember is that Gravity will always be 10 because that is the gravity in earth.
  • KE stands for… Kinetic Energy
    • The faster an object is travelling the more kinetic energy it has. Kinetic energy can be calculated using an equation.
    • An object with a larger mass will have more kinetic energy than a smaller object moving at the same velocity.
  • Equation for Kinetic Energy:
    KE = 0.5 * mass * velocity squared
    • Kinetic Energy is measured in Joules (J)
    • Mass is measured in Kilograms (kg)
    • Velocity is measured in metres per second (m/s)
    • And you then have per second squared
