    • adjective 'solitary' links back to the novella, except that child scrooge was actually alone and it was not his choice
    • juxtaposition of 'neglected' with 'friends' develops the readers empathy towards his character
    • further more when he sobs the reader understands that empathy and compassion have the power to elicit an emotional responcefrom scrooge-->signifies transformation

    -CAN BE USED FOR: redemption- change or this will happen, supernatural- fear is catalyst to his change, scared of the consequences.

    • 'i forged'-verb, accountability, no resistance/ fight, acceptance, not forced , he did this, admitting, guilty
    • 'wears'-warning for everyone, Scrooge forced to look, visible ,weighed down, constant punishment
    • 'chain'-symbolism for the accumulation of all sins commited ,connected by links, every sin leads to another

    • Symbolism- snow= represents class divide. Scrooge embodies capitalism + injustice
    • Adjective 'smooth'- beautiful, perfect, untouched, no stress, no damage, no hardship- good easy life (Scrooge)- is at the top representing the rich, upper looking over lower class
    • Adjective 'dirtier'- disgusting, discoloured, muddy, gets trampled on, stepped on (Cratchits)-tough life-poor working class,
    • juxtaposition between the rich and the poor
    • pathetic fallacy to reflect the mood and events in the victorian era
