  • What types of international aid does Nigeria receive?
    • 4% given from African countries. Most came from individual countries like UK + USA and some from international organisations like NGOs
    • The main donors are IDA (international development agency) who donated $500 million. The USA donated $450 million and the Uk donated over $350 million
    • Total aid given was $1300 million
  • What are the impacts of international aid on Nigeria?
    1. The NGO nets for life - provides education on Malaria prevention and gives out anti mosquito nets
    2. Aid from the USA - helps to educate and protect people against the spread of AIDS/HIV
    3. The USAID funded - community care which provides support packages fro orphans and vulnerable children
    4. The world bank - In 2014 they approved $500 million to fund development projects and provide long - term loans which helped reduce over dependence on oil
  • Problems with international aid?
    Aid given to the government may not be used to help the country and therefore lead to corruption in the government

    They may use the money for things that don’t help with the development of Nigeria such as to build the Navy of Nigeria
