  • What do population pyramids show?

    Age and gender distribution of a population.
    percentage of males and females in each group
  • What does the dependency ratio?
    The proportion of people below 0-14 and above 65.

    The lower the number the greater the number of people who work and are less dependent (LICs)

    The higher the number, the greater the number of people who are dependent on the working population
  • General pyramid shape meaning?
    If the pyramid is wide at the bottom - There is a high population of young people (Mexico)

    Shorter bars - high death rates (war or famine)
