the significant life experience

Cards (3)

  • On September the 17th, 1946, after 17 years as a teacher in Calcutta with the Loreto Sisters, Mother Teresa (1910-1997) took the 400-mile train trip to Darjeeling. While on the train, Mother Tersa has a mystical encounter with Jesus Christ
  • She receives a ‘call within a call’ from Jesus to serve him among the ‘poorest of the poor’, as expressed in Time’s 2006 Magazine. Teresa, herself, articulated the call that Jesus asked her to personify herself as ‘[his] light’, and ‘carry [him] into the holes of the poor’ (New York Times).
  • Significantly, this culminated in the epiphany that Jesus was asking more of Mother Teresa. Indeed, Mother Teresa was tangibly adhering to the ministry of God, through her works in the uncloistered, education-orientated community that was the Loreto Sisters. Nevertheless, this experience made her understand the importance of surrendering and trusting to her new calling - the imperative to satiate the suffering of the poor.
