  • what are the structures of a typical neuron?

    • Dendrites - Tree like structures that receive information (an extension from the neuron)
    • Axon - The main body of the neuron and messages travel along it as electrical signals and away from the cell body
    • Myelin Sheath - insulating fatty layer that protects the axon, it also speeds up the transmission of electrical signals
    • Node Ranvier - helps the impulse move more quickly along the neuron
    • Cell body - Contains the nucleus and helps cell development and synthesis of protein
    • Action Potential - The electrical charge
