• Head of state - the highest representative of a sovereign state; President
• Head of government - responsible for carrying on the business of government and leading ministers; President (both head of state and gov)
• Expressed powers - powers the Constitution has given to the federal government
• Enumerated powers - powers given to the federal government by the US Constitution
• Implied powers - powers not explicitly mentioned in the Constiution
• Founding fathers - a member of the convention that drew up the constitution of the US in 1787 e.g. Thomas Jefferson
• Presidency/Executive branch - branch of the government that exercise authority across the governed territory and for implementing and enforcing the laws created by the legislative branch
• Absolute tyranny - a government in which absolute power is vested in a single ruler
