Blood Plasma Water Potential Increases

Cards (3)

  • Blood plasma water increases if excess fluid is taken into body; events occur in reverse, it is detected by the osmoreceptors in hypothalamus, less/no stimulation of neurosecretory cells and ADH secretion
  • Less/no ADH binds to receptors on collecting duct membranes; aquaporins are taken back to cytoplasm by endocytosis at luminal plasma membrane, so collecting duct cells become less water permeable/impermeable
  • Less/no water is re-absorbed into medulla and then to blood plasma so water potential returns to normal (urine volume increases and concentration decreases)
