  • 4 types of unreliable narrators are:
    -Liar
    -Naif
    -Madman
    -Picaro
  • An unreliable narrator is an untrustworthy storyteller, most often used in narratives with a first person point of view. They hold back information, lie, and mislead the reader casting doubt on the narrative
  • Picaro is a narrator who exaggerates
  • Madman is an unreliable narrator as they are mentally detached from reality
  • Naif is a narrator who's abilities are limited by age or inexperience
  • Liar is a narrator who is the most deliberate of all the unreliable narrators as they fabricate stories often to paint a better picture of themselves or achieve a desired outcome.
  • Unreliable narrators can be created from:
    -Leaving the reader in the dark
    -The beginning (they wont become unreliable there will always be hints that they are from the start)
    -A varying degree of unreliability
  • With a third person narrator comment on the characters and how they change from Beginning, Middle and End (If there is no dialogue to compare from the beginning then focus on where there is and go from there)
