  • accent: a distinct way of pronouncing language, usually relates to their social class, or the area they're from
  • Heightened RP [received pronounciation] - posher british accent
  • volume: perceived loudness of the actor
  • projection: directing the voice so it can be heard clearly at a distance
  • articulation: if someone is articulate, it means all of their words are clear, distinct and coherent. can relate to social class
  • emphasis: the stress put on 1 or more words in a sentence to but more significance on them
  • intonation: how a person's pitch falls and rises [e.g. a higher pitch could signify a question or disbelief]
  • pace: how quickly someone speaks
  • pause: a gap someone leaves when they speak
  • tempo: the speed of which a line is delivered
  • rhythm: The controlled flow of words and phrases in speech as determined by the relation of long and short or stressed and unstressed syllables.
  • tone: the way you say something, and the impression it makes on everyone in your audience who hears you.
  • vocal quality: the overall defining characteristics of someone's voice
  • aside: lines spoken by a performer to the audience but it's not meant to be heard by the other characters on stage
  • inflection: change in pitch or loudness of voice
  • timbre: the distinctive character or quality of a musical or vocal sound apart from its pitch or intensity e.g. a nasal voice
  • vocal expression: how the perfomer uses their voice to convey their character
