Leukopoiesis

• • Leukopoiesis is the formation of white blood cells. In adults, leukopoiesis occurs in the red bone marrow
• The process of WBC production is called leukopoiesis
• Stem cells responsible for producing lymphopoiesis, also originate in the red bone marrow
• Many of the lymphold stem cells that produce lymphocytes migrate from the red bone marrow to peripheral lymphatic tissues, including the thymus, spleen, and lymph nodes
• Hormones called, colony-stimulating factors (CSFs), are involved in regulating other WBC populations
