  • what does the Social learning theory propose?

That we learn our behaviour from others .
  • What is a role model?

A person we look up to .
  • What is identification?

the process of where a person aligning's themselves with another.
  • What is observation ?

the process of an individual paying attention to the behaviours and retain them in their memories .
  • what is imitation?

A process where people recall behaviours and produce them in their own actions.
  • what is Vicarious reinforcement?

When behaviour is strengthened by an individual observing this same behaviour being rewarded in another.
  • When we have role models , we look up to and respect (parents, older siblings etc.).We go through a process of identification, where we want to be like these people ; we watch what they do and try to copy them .These are the processes of observation and imitation.
  • What motivates us to imitate people in the first place?
According to SLT , when we observe others being rewarded for their behaviour ; we then decide that we want the same rewards an believe that by imitating this behaviour we will receive the same outcomes. Vicarious reinforcement.
  • what is Direct reinforcement?

When a behaviour is strengthened and likely to be repeated due to positive outcomes for the individual.
  • According to SLT if a behaviour is strengthened through continual reinforcement then there is a point where it becomes internalised. Internalisation describes the process where the behaviour has become "part" of a person , and does not necessarily have to be reinforced for it to continue.
  • After a while people have reached a stage where the behaviour has become habitual .This means people have learned to engage in criminal behaviour regardless for the consequences.
