• How it works

  A wall made out of concrete built on the edge of the Coastline, sometimes they are curved to reflect the waves energy back out to sea
• Advantages

  • Are effective for many years
  • Protect the base of the cliff by reflecting the waves energy
  • Are visual so make residents feel safe
  • Can reduce coastal flooding
• Disadvantages

  • Expensive to build at 6,000 per metre
  • Ugly and can put tourists off or restrict access to the beach
  • Reflect wave energy - increasing erosion elsewhere
