  To clean up the favelas and the rest of Rio's streets from fly-tipping, the authorities have developed a new system where methane from rotting rubbish is used to produce electricity

  The powerplant consumes 30 tonnes of rubbish a day and can supply enough electricity for up to 1000 houses

  This means that there is a decrease in the amount of waste in the streets
